Chevrolet . How to Put Oil in a BMW 2005 X5In 1999, the German automotive manufacturer, BMW, designed its first luxury SUV with the X5 model. The X5 is described by BMW as a Sport Activity Vehicle, or SAV, to emphasize its on-road capabilities. The X5 comes with all-wheel drive and is available with manual or automatic transmission. Gasoline engines are offered as inline-6s or V-8s. Diesel models are also available. Like all automobiles, the 2005 BMW X5 requires engine oil. The X5, however, operates on a special synthetic oil. BMW recommends you read the instructions in your owner's manual before putting oil in the X5. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need BMW high-performance synthetic oil Funnel Lint-free cloth or paper towelsChecking the Oil Level Step by Step : 1 Drive the X5 for at least six continuous miles to bring the engine to operating temperature. Park the vehicle in a horizontal position and turn off the engine. 2 Allow the X5 to sit for five minutes. 3 Open the hood. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. 4 Place the dipstick all the way back in the dipstick tube. Remove it again. The oil level should be in between the two marks on the dipstick. This equals approximately 1.1 U.S. quarts. If engine oil level has dropped just above the lower mark on the dipstick, proceed to Section 2. If it has not, do not add oil. Filling with Oil Step by Step : 1 Remove the oil cap inside the X5 engine compartment. 2 Insert a clean funnel into the oil-reservoir opening and pour the approved BMW synthetic oil inside. 3 Replace the oil cap and allow the oil to drain. 4 Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it with a clean lint-free cloth or paper towel. Re-insert the dipstick into the dipstick tube to check the oil level. Add more oil if needed. Do not fill above the upper mark on the oil dipstick. Tips & Warnings Take your X5 to a BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Center or a repair shop that has trained personal performing service under BMW guidelines. They will make sure the vehicle receives the required BMW High Performance Synthetic Oil. Ask your BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Center what other synthetic oils are approved. If you are in between oil changes and should need to add oil to the X5 engine yourself, find out what other oils you can use. You can also contact BMW of North America at 800-831-1117 or go online at BMWUSA. The engine oil level should not be filled beyond the dipstick's upper mark. Doing so may cause engine damage. BMW engines are designed to operate without oil additives. Using oil additives may damage an engine. ResourcesEdmunds: 2005 BMW X5 Review
Chevrolet . How Do I Check the Oil in a BMW 540i?You should check the oil level in your BMW 540i every time you stop for gas or at least once a week. Monitoring the oil level regularly will help avoid potential damage to your engine due to low oil levels. BMW recommends changing the oil every three months or 3,500 miles, whichever comes first. Maintaining the oil in your engine will keep the car running at its best. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Paper towel Step by Step : 1 Park your BMW 540i on a level surface. Allow the engine to idle for a few minutes then turn it off. Wait five minutes then raise the hood of the car. 2 Pull the engine oil dipstick out of the tube. The dipstick is in the center of the engine compartment with a small plastic loop on top. Wipe the dipstick clean with a paper towel. 3 Insert the dipstick into the tube until it is seated completely. Pull the dipstick straight out and examine the oil level compared to the markings on the stick. Add oil if it is at or below the "Add" line.
